Welcome to Sun City Yacht Club
We warmly welcome you to the Sun City Yacht Club (SCYC).
Established on 11 November 1974, SCYC was founded in the Two Rocks–Yanchep region by a dedicated group of sailors and local businessmen. Among the founding members was Alan Bond, who would later become one of Australia’s best-known America’s Cup campaigners.
Alan Bond brought together the team that famously captured the America’s Cup for Australia in 1983, when Australia II, representing the Royal Perth Yacht Club, defeated the New York Yacht Club’s Liberty. Bond’s America’s Cup ambitions began much closer to home, with Two Rocks and Yanchep serving as an important base for his early campaigns. His yachts Southern Cross, her trialling partner Gretel, and later Australia I trained and competed off the Two Rocks and Yanchep coast in preparation for the America’s Cup. After unsuccessful challenges in 1977 and 1980, Bond returned in 1983, when Australia II achieved the historic victory that ended the New York Yacht Club’s 132-year winning streak.
In the years following SCYC’s formation, the Two Rocks Marina became a popular destination for visiting international yachts. Many larger vessels were unable to pass beneath the bridges on the Swan River, making Two Rocks an important stop for cruising and racing yachts. The marina was also the first along the coast to feature a Travelift (Tami Lift) capable of lifting large vessels from the water.
During this period, the yacht club flourished, with regular keelboat racing and small catamaran events bringing an active sailing community to the area.
Today, Sun City Yacht Club continues this proud sailing tradition. The club has a fleet of approximately 20 dinghies across four classes, with a strong focus on introducing people of all ages to sailing and developing their skills. SCYC is also an accredited Yachting Australia Discover Sailing Centre, providing opportunities for both juniors and adults to learn the fundamentals of sailing in a supportive environment.
New members are always welcome. The club offers regular Saturday dinghy sailing throughout summer, an active social calendar, and opportunities for members to experience sailing on keelboats.
Whether you are an experienced sailor, new to the sport, or simply interested in becoming part of a friendly and active sailing community, we invite you to discover all that Sun City Yacht Club has to offer.
